Both my boyfriend and I have been experiencing stale Mail notifications/downloads since 18.0, including 18.1. It'll update the badge, but not download the emails, or display notifications. My boyfriend just had 28 emails popped in that hadn't loaded since yesterday, which is the most so far.
Did anyone experience this BS and have it magically go away in the 18.2 beta with the new Mail updates, or are we cursed to have that persist in the 18.2 release it'll just sort the mail it isn't fetching?
So this is absolutely still happening in 18.2. But now, categories kind of masks it a little bit. I get notifications that it downloaded to summarize the text for, like before, but no badges (because the mails from overnight were not “primary” worthy). I open the app and wait for it to connect to the mail server to download the emails that started coming in at 4:12 AM. Same for my boyfriend who demanded the old inbox last night because he was sick of it. Thanks, Mail.
Jason asked me to show him how to disable summaries. He turned it off in notifications, but he needed to turn off the toggles under Messages and Mail. This is after I helped him turn off categories in Mail last night. He has *HAD IT*, fyi
@joesteel This time he’s really going to Android for real.
@dan Just like every other time he’s threatened to get a Samsung. Those never have any problems ever and definitely no AI
@joesteel mail categories is a good concept, but oh boy the execution of the idea is, sub par, so say the least. I haven’t turned them off yet, I want to see if anything changes in 18.3, if not, they’re going to get turned off.
I’ll be turning them off for any of my family members though.
@waynedixon yeah that’s why I left them on too. I’m not very confident they’re going to improve it quickly though
@joesteel I’m right there with you on that. I could see them being useful for someone who gets a lot of email and would prefer to have it triaged, but I don’t.
I think the thing that bugs me most is that there are no badges on the app, and no email counts under “Mailboxes”, even when there is something in “primary”, it just seems like a rush job and completely broken.
@joesteel the thing where you have to turn it off for *each* account in Mail is just awful
